IDIWA (Integrated Disabled Women Activities)

MDGs-Women, Poverty

About Us

IDIWA was created out of the realization that women with disabilities are a minority who are doubly discriminated and are living in extreme poverty. We aim to assist people with disabilities through self-help and sustainable community-based development programs.

Our mission is to empower people with disabilities to maximize their potential and improve their standard of living. We envision a society in which people with disabilities are fully integrated and enjoying their rights.

Our Community

We are established in Iganga, Uganda. We work with local people with disabilities through a variety of programs, such as Health Services, Sustainable Livelihoods, Vocational Skills Training, Rehabilitation and Empowerment, Human Rights and Policy Advocacy, Microfinance Services, and Institutional Development.

History

IDIWA was founded in 2000 and is a registered non-governmental organization. We have great plans for the future. We aim to establish our own vocational skills training center, which will cater to the needs of people with disabilities, as well as train non-disabled people. IDIWA also plans to establish a community resource center which will accommodate the offices, the vocational skills training center, a conference hall, a salon, a secretarial service center, a showroom for finished projects from carpentry and craftwork, a library, and a prayer room.
