Technology Niche

Technology

Focuses on providing and training in current technology for grassroots partners ranging from computers, programs, solar power, and other equipment.

Technology in Africa

While many countries in Africa were due to various factors such as colonialism, civil war and dictatorships in many ways cut off from the western world in terms of the new technology. Most countries in Africa were industrialised late in comparison to Europe and North America but there is a rapid development happening. Infrastructure is being developed and a rapid spread of technology (internet, cell phones are important contributors to modernization) is taking place.

With rapid technology developments, many Grassroots Partners are interested in developing technology programs, and becoming proficient with use of technology (from website development, to typing skills, to creating computer labs).

Volunteering with Technology Projects & Programs

Volunteers can range from support with implementing new technology (such as solar panels or drip irrigation) to training and support of Grassroots Partners. A number of grassroots partners are interested in developing their own websites to become known internationally.

Note: some technology projects can be handled from abroad, without needing to travel directly to Africa for support.
